His two Class 2 wins are the headline. The first came at York in October 2023, a track with a reputation for rewarding genuine ability, and it announced him as a horse worth following. The second arrived at Southwell in February 2025, when the drop back to seven furlongs seemed to unlock something — trainer Kevin Ryan noted afterwards that Apiarist had raced too keenly over longer trips before, and that settling him that day made all the difference. Ryan was clearly pleased, talking afterwards about the Lincoln and the big summer handicaps as realistic next targets. For a horse who wins roughly 1 in every 7 races overall, that kind of ambition from the yard means something.

The partnership with jockey Tom Eaves is worth noting. In 17 races together, they have won 3 times — that is 18%, or nearly 1 in every 5, comfortably above Apiarist's overall win rate of 14%. The horse also shows a genuine preference for normal ground conditions, winning 2 of his 8 races on a standard surface — 25%, or 1 in 4. That is the kind of stat that matters when you are picking your spots.

Ryan, based at Hambleton in North Yorkshire, has sent out 45 winners this season alone, so this is not a quiet backwater operation. His stable tour comments from April 2024 were striking — he talked about Apiarist having genuinely strengthened through the winter, and about being confident "big days" were coming. That optimism has not yet fully translated into a winning run — Apiarist has not won in his last 6 races, with his most recent outing just yesterday — but the horse is active, the yard is in good form, and Ryan has never stopped believing in him.

The last win was 15 months ago, which is a long time. But the level he is competing at, the jockey combination that works, and a trainer who clearly has a plan all suggest this is a horse with unfinished business rather than a fading one.
