Antiphon

The horse started his career at Chelmsford in December 2021, and the Murphy stable clearly valued him highly in those early days. The trainer noted at the time that Antiphon was a lovely prospect with genuine promise, though a minor injury setback meant a patient approach to his early campaign. When things finally clicked in 2024, Antiphon showed what the yard had always believed — he won at Windsor on 29 April and proved reliable enough on the Class 4 circuit, winning 2 of his 27 races at that level. One of the stable's staff at the time described him as "a legend of a horse, so easy to train," a comment that speaks to his straightforward nature rather than any exceptional ability, but an honest, uncomplicated horse is worth its weight in the training yard.

These days, with Callum Hutchinson aboard regularly — five rides without a win — Antiphon is running more often than he is succeeding. Recent form tells the story: a fourth, then two third-place finishes sandwiched around a run outside the frame. He raced just a day ago, so clearly still has the appetite for it. He will likely remain a regular on the lower rungs of the racing ladder, a dependable hand who keeps his yard's winner count ticking over and gives his the yard the occasional pleasant afternoon out, even if the days of Antiphon as a winning force have faded into the past.
