Andesite

The picture becomes clearer when you look at where Andesite performs best. At distances between 5 furlongs and 6½ furlongs, the horse wins roughly 1 in every 8 races (12%). More tellingly, in Class 2 company — the top tier of racing — Andesite has a 20% win rate across five races. That single victory came at York, a track where the horse seems suited, and trainer Roger Fell clearly had high hopes at the time, viewing the horse as genuinely exciting and discussing entries in top two-year-old races. Yet the intervening years have not delivered on that early promise. Recent form suggests Andesite is grinding away in consistent but unrewarding form, the kind of horse that regularly runs well enough to earn minor places but struggles to find the extra needed for victory. At four years old and without a win in nearly two and a half years, time may be running short to reignite what once looked like a promising career.
