That is a genuinely competitive record for a horse operating week in, week out at this level.

The partnership with jockey Joshua Thompson is worth noting. In 18 races together they have won 4 times — a 22% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 4 and a half rides — which comfortably beats Ambassador's overall average and suggests the two have developed a real understanding. Thompson has been aboard for the majority of the wins, and that consistency of rider matters more than it might seem.

The distance sweet spot is 1 mile 6 furlongs to 2 miles — middle-to-long distances where horses need stamina as much as speed — and over that range Ambassador has won 4 of 15 races (27%). Recent form has been quieter; it has not won in its last 6 races, with finishes of 5th, 9th, 8th, and 6th. But Ambassador raced just one day ago and remains active, and its last win came at Cartmel in August 2025 — so this is a horse still competing, still placing itself in contention. At nine, with Uttoxeter still on the calendar, it would be unwise to write it off entirely.
