That is the kind of result that tells you this horse isn't just filling a field at a nice venue. When conditions align at Newbury, Almuhit belongs in the conversation.

Dry, fast ground seems to be a big part of that equation. On quicker surfaces, Almuhit has won 2 of 6 races — 33%, which is a remarkable one-in-three — compared to a much thinner record when the ground cuts up. Similarly, the horse has found its best form at around a mile and three to four furlongs, winning 1 from 4 at those distances. Neither stat on its own is extraordinary, but put them together — Newbury, dry ground, right distance — and you have a combination that has paid off before.

The more puzzling part of the story is the current jockey partnership. Isabelle Ryder has ridden Almuhit six times without a win, and those recent runs — finishing seventh, seventh, and ninth before a blank result — suggest this horse is currently well short of its best. It last won nine months ago, and six races have passed since that Newbury success without another trip to the winner's enclosure. Whether that is a form dip, a stretch of unsuitable conditions, or just the natural ebb of a seven-year-old campaigner, it is a question that Bramley's yard — which has sent out an impressive 19 winners already this season — will be working to answer.

Almuhit raced just one day ago, so whatever comes next will come quickly. When the entries go up, Newbury and a dry forecast would be a combination worth noticing.
