The recent run of form makes for difficult reading. Over the last six races, the best finish recorded is fourth, with a tenth and a seventh also in that sequence, and two runs where Albert Park failed to complete or was pulled up entirely. Raced just yesterday, this is a horse still very much in action, still being tested week to week. At six years old, the hope is always that something clicks — but the evidence so far is that it hasn't.
Bryan Carver has ridden Albert Park seven times, which suggests a genuine working partnership, yet the pair have not won together once. That is not necessarily a damning verdict on either horse or jockey — it may simply reflect the level they are operating at. Class 5 is the lowest tier of British racing, and even there, Albert Park has failed to win in eight attempts at that level. Three places from 16 races overall means a finish in the top positions roughly one race in every five or six, which keeps Albert Park competitive enough to keep running without ever threatening to take home a prize.
Trainer Nigel Hawke operates out of Stoodleigh in Devon and has sent out nine winners this season, so the yard clearly knows how to get a horse to the front. Albert Park has simply not been one of them yet. Whether that changes depends on finding the right race at the right moment — something that has so far proved elusive across a career of sixteen attempts.
