What makes that worth paying attention to is the yard it comes from. Al Hudaiba is trained by Charlie Appleby at Newmarket, and Appleby's operation is one of the most powerful in British racing right now — 121 winners already this season. When a team sending out that volume of winners bothers to run a youngster, they tend to know what they have. A debut winner from this stable is not an accident.
It is still very early days, of course. One race tells you something, but not everything. What it does tell you is that Al Hudaiba handled Newmarket — a track with a long, testing straight that quickly finds out horses who are not quite ready — and handled it well enough to win first time out. That is a decent opening line to any racing story. The next chapter will be the interesting one.
