Akrivos

What makes the situation a little puzzling is the level at which Akrivos is competing. Class 6 is the lowest tier of British racing — the entry point, where horses are generally expected to be finding their feet or working their way back to form. Even there, Akrivos has drawn a blank in all six attempts at that level. The recent form figures of 6-8-4-4-4-7 do show a couple of fourth-place finishes in the middle of that run, which at least suggests the horse gets competitive at times, but it has not been able to convert that proximity into a victory.

The one encouraging factor here is the yard behind the horse. Ian Williams, based at Alvechurch in Worcestershire, has sent out 91 winners already this season — a serious volume of success that marks his operation as one of the more productive around. When a trainer of that calibre keeps running a horse, it usually means they believe there is a win in it somewhere. Whether Akrivos can finally deliver on that faith is the question. Having raced just yesterday and still active, the answer may not be far away — though eleven races in, it has been a long time coming.
