What makes this particularly interesting is the trainer behind it. Richard Hughes, based at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, has sent out 60 winners already this season — a figure that tells you his yard is firing on all cylinders right now. Horses leaving that stable are arriving at the track in form, and Agamemnon is clearly no exception. When a yard is producing winners at that kind of volume, the horses coming out of it deserve serious attention, especially a young two-year-old with a clean record and momentum behind it.

There is not much racing history to dissect yet — two runs is a small sample — but the direction of travel is the right one. A debut win followed by a placed finish suggests this is a horse that competes hard and handles the experience of racing well. The next few months will tell us a great deal more about its ceiling.
