Against The Wind

The most recent win came at Southwell on 13 July 2025, over a year ago now, which speaks to a tough patch. In the last six races, Against The Wind has picked up three places but no wins, finishing 18th, 21st, 11th, third, third, and sixth. That's the kind of recent form that would worry most the yard. Yet the underlying record against top-class opposition is solid. At Class 2 level—one of the premier racing grades—the horse has won two of six races, a 33% win rate that shows real ability when pushed into the big race arena.

Tom Eaves, the jockey most associated with the horse, has ridden it eight times and won three of those races, a win rate of 38%. That partnership clearly works. Kevin Ryan's Hambleton yard has been prolific this season with 45 winners, so the training setup is operating at a strong level. For Against The Wind to return to the winner's enclosure, three things would need to align: soft ground underfoot, a Class 2 race, and the right conditions to unlock that 67% win rate on slow going. Raced just a day ago, it remains actively campaigned—still a horse very much in contention.
