What makes the situation interesting is who is doing the waiting. Adba is trained by Ralph Beckett at his yard in Kimpton, Hampshire, and Beckett is having a seriously productive season — 109 winners already, which puts him firmly among the busiest and most successful trainers in the country. A yard that sends out that many winners clearly knows how to place a horse to give it the best chance, so the fact that Adba has raced five times without breaking through suggests the team is still searching for the right conditions or distance to unlock something better. Beckett is not a trainer who runs horses for the sake of it, which means there is presumably a plan here, even if the results have not reflected it yet.
Adba raced just yesterday, so this is very much an ongoing story. At three years old, there is still time for things to click — plenty of horses take a while to work out what is being asked of them. But right now, the form book does not give much to work with, and the next run will need to show something new if confidence in a turnaround is to grow.
