What makes the situation interesting is where Ablon sits in the training operation behind it. Richard Hannon's yard in Wiltshire is one of the most prolific in Britain this season, having sent out 113 winners already — a number that puts them firmly among the busiest and most successful outfits in the country. When a yard is firing at that rate, they tend to know which horses are ready to win and which need more time. The fact that Ablon is still running suggests the team believe there is a result in there somewhere.

At Class 4, Ablon is competing in the middle tier of British racing — not scraping the barrel, but not in the headline events either. Going winless from three races at that level means it has not yet managed to beat horses of a similar standard, which is the next obvious target. A first win would not set the racing world alight, but it would be a meaningful step forward for a horse still finding its feet at four years old. Last raced just 29 days ago, Ablon is clearly in active training and another opportunity should not be far away.
