His most recent run tells you plenty. He won at Chester just this week, on 8 May 2026, and was back in the stall again just a day later — an indication of how well he has been thriving. Chester is one of British racing's most unusual and demanding tracks, a tight left-handed loop where horses that handle the bends gain a real edge over those that don't. Winning there isn't a fluke; it takes a horse who knows what he's doing.
Zoom out and the recent form tells a good story too. In his last six races he has finished 1st, pulled up, 1st, 3rd, 2nd and 3rd — a sequence that shows a horse going the right way, picking up wins while still running competitively when he doesn't top the table. That pulled-up run is the one outlier, but O'Brien offered context on that last April: the horse had finished second in the Irish Cesarewitch — one of the most prestigious long-distance races in Ireland — before picking up a small setback. The trainer spoke with obvious affection about getting him back to those big staying races through the summer, and it looks very much like that plan is coming together right on schedule.
A Piece Of Heaven broke his duck at Gowran Park back in September 2023, and the career he has built since then — four wins, consistent places, a second in a major Irish race and now a winner at Chester — paints the picture of a horse who has found his level and is thriving in it. At eight years old, with a sharp trainer and a horse in form, there could well be more to come this summer.
