That story got a lot more interesting this week. His most recent win came at Aintree on 15 May 2026, just days ago, and Aintree is not a track where ordinary horses suddenly look good — it is one of the most famous and demanding venues in British racing. Winning there means something. His first career win came at Huntingdon back in November 2025, so he has now ticked off two different tracks, which suggests he is versatile rather than a horse who only performs in one specific set of circumstances.

His recent form reads 1-4-3-3-3-5 going back six races, and that sequence is quietly encouraging. Five of those six runs produced a finish in the top four, and the win at the end of it all was not a fluke coming out of nowhere — he had been knocking on the door. Horses who string together a run of placed efforts before winning are often genuinely improving, rather than just getting lucky on the day.

Most of his racing has come at Class 5 level, which is the entry-level tier of British racing. Winning 1 from 8 at that grade — roughly 1 in every 8 races — is nothing to shout about on paper, but the Aintree win opens up an interesting question about whether his team at Andrew J Martin's yard in Chipping Norton might now look to test him in slightly better company. Martin has sent out five winners already this season, so it is an active and functioning yard. Jockey Dillon Butler has ridden him in 8 of his 15 races and will know the horse well by now, even if their combined record of 1 win from those 8 races together — 12%, or roughly 1 in 8 — is not eye-catching. Sometimes the best is still ahead of a partnership.

At seven, A Good Yomp is not young, but he is clearly still running well and improving. Whatever comes next, this week's win at Aintree is the best result of his career so far.
