What we can look at is breeding. The father is Naval Crown, a sprinter who won one of the biggest races in Britain at Royal Ascot and went on to become a promising stallion. The mother's side brings in Excelebration, a horse known for speed and consistency at the highest level. Put that together and you have a pedigree that suggests 00tara Celeb should be quick, and probably at their best over shorter distances — at least to begin with.
The trainer is Jack Jones, working out of Newmarket in Suffolk — the spiritual home of British flat racing, where the gallops and the history make it one of the most competitive places in the country to base a yard. Jones has had a productive season, sending out 35 winners, which tells you this is not an outfit that fills races for the sake of it. When a horse leaves this yard for a debut, there is usually a degree of quiet confidence behind it.
Beyond that, we simply wait and watch. First-time runners are the sport's great unknowns, and 00tara Celeb could be anything.
